Hi! I’m Alex. I am a licensed independent clinical social worker (she/her/hers pronouns) based in Rockville, Maryland. I have a Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan University and a Master’s degree in Social Work (with a concentration in Mental Health) from Washington University in St. Louis. I’ve been practicing social work for 12 years now, and my professional experience includes working in foster care and adoption settings (both policy and advocacy work, and direct clinical work with kids, teens and families), high school and college counseling centers, and hospitals. I’m an adoptee myself, as well as someone in a small fat body.

My therapeutic style is integrative, meaning I pull from different modalities depending on what is needed and desired by my clients (including but not limited to cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based stress reduction, narrative therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy). I always strive to provide therapy that is trauma-informed and culturally competent, and I am strongly relational, meaning I use my warmth, sensitivity and sense of humor to build a strong therapeutic connection with my clients. I believe that therapy can offer a healing and corrective emotional experience, which can be especially helpful for those who have struggled to find this kind of connection elsewhere—and that the therapeutic alliance we create is essential to the healing work we’ll do together. Finally, I believe therapy is political—it has to be—so I’m the best fit for clients who are open to acknowledging the ways in which systems we are part of impact us, both individually and as a society.

Outside of work, I enjoy being outside, traveling, reading, writing, baking, hiking, biking, finding that next great TV show to watch, and spending time with my husband, daughter, family, friends, rescue cat, and dog.
